Why did George Russell jump out of the F1 car after Zhou Guanyu’s accident?

The first lap of the Formula One British Grand Prix saw two separate multi-car crashes that sent one driver to hospital for “cautionary checks” and another skidded across the track and gravel before hitting the fence.

Pierre Gasly stepped between Zhou Guanyu and George Russell, but as the gap closed, the AlphaTauri pilot fell back. Gasly clipped Russell’s left rear wheel in the process, sending the Mercedes spinning into Zhou.

The Afla Romeo flipped over and skidded across the track and gravel before rolling over the barriers. The fence in front of the grandstand is what stopped Zhou, the rookie’s car falling into the gap between the fence and the tire barrier.

Meanwhile, Russell was on the right track seeing this happening and jumped out of his Mercedes before running across the gravel towards Zhou. He quickly jumped over the barriers, beckoning the bailiffs to come help.
