However, the 25-year-old struggled on the back nine, with a close of 39 which placed him in a portion of fourth place. He already has four PGA Tour wins in 2022, including the Masters, so write him off at your peril!

What’s more, the Canadian is only in the event after Paul Casey pulled out due to a back injury, with Hadwin as the first alternate for the Dallas qualifier. Should he claim victory, Hadwin would become the first Canadian to win the US Open.

Let’s get back to the title contenders, and Boston’s own Keegan Bradley, who will be looking to secure his second Major win. Yesterday, the city favorite fired a one-under-par 69 to sit two behind, with the American describing the walk to 18 as “one of the most incredible moments of my entire life”.

Last year’s winner Jon Rahm sits just one shot off the leaders, with the defending champion regretting a costly double bogey last Saturday. The Spaniard had been flying around Brookline, with three birdies in four holes giving him the outright lead on the 18th. However, his second was left in the bunker when he finished with a return shot. Rahm is looking to become the first player to defend the US Open since Brooks Koepka in 2017 and 2018.
