Muskegon pro flirts with the ‘perfect game’ in golf, shoot, listen to this, a 55!

In 2012, Andrew Ruthkoski set the course record at Oak Ridge Golf Club in Muskegon, hitting 11 under par 61.

On Sunday night, while playing an informal round on his home course with his twin stepdaughters, he tied 11 under over nine holes. By the time he finished, Ruthkoski had hit the most unthinkable score: a 17-under 55.

Really. There were four witnesses.

“Yeah,” Ruthkoski said with a laugh on the phone this week, “it was a good time.”

Ruthkoski, 39, a professional golfer from Muskegon who shot the 55 between a strong performance at the Michigan Open and this week’s seed for the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic, carried The News through the round, hole per hole, which included four eagles (on the front nine alone) and nine birdies on a course played just over 6,000 yards from the back tees.
