I am a 26 year old golf cart driver in Las Vegas.

This essay as stated is based on a conversation with Cassie Holland, a 26 year old. cart girl on a golf course and tik tok creator in Las Vegas The following has been edited for length and clarity.

I grew up in Connecticut and have experience as a waitress. When I moved to Las Vegas in 2018, I was waitressing at conventions and model booth presentations at trade shows, really anything I could do to stay here.

But then the pandemic hit and obviously I was out of a job because of the conventions being closed. I was pretty desperate, and someone told me about this job as a waiter at a golf course. I didn’t really know what that meant, but I needed a job, so I took it, and then it changed my life.

I fell in love with the job instantly because there’s not a lot of grass or wildlife in Vegas. I got to the golf course and there were palm trees and little animals running around. It made me a super positive person.

About a year after working as a cart, I started putting videos on TikTok.

My best friend was also out of a job and needed to do something, so I got her a job with me. She wanted me to do dance TikToks with her. At first I said, “We’re at work, we can’t do this.” But she insisted because we look cute, so we started making them on her account.

One day, I thought I should start posting to my account as well. I made a video of the girl in the car and it didn’t really get many views. Then one of the golfers pissed me off, so I made a little “story time” post. I didn’t even check my TikTok, but I went to Instagram and wondered, “Why are my Instagram followers suddenly increasing so much?”

I noticed that my TikTok video was going viral. I was scared when I saw that it reached 100,000 visits because nothing like this had ever happened to me. When it hit a million views, I thought: wow this is crazy, I have to keep doing this. From there, I continued to make videos about my work every day.

I’ve grown my TikTok to 1.8 million followers and 45 million likes, and now I get a lot of offers to work with brands.

I don’t do too many, because I want my videos to be more about me in the cart. The biggest brand I worked with was Abercrombie, although I was a bit skeptical at first and didn’t believe it. Why would Abercrombie want to work with me? But they followed it up and it was legit, and that was great.

Many smaller golf companies want to send me some of their clothing to promote, and I try to help out from time to time.

Tips are pretty good – I usually make $400-$500 a day on top of my salary

You get your $200 days, and I even had a $60 day in the winter when it was really cold and we all left early. My best tip I’ve ever received was $1,000 from these four guys.

I usually work about four days a week. But if someone needs me to fill in, I tend to say yes, as I try to work as much as possible.

When I started working on the course, I was paid the minimum wage, which was around $9 an hour in Nevada. Once I started using TikTok, other courses approached me with opportunities. The owner of the golf course where I work asked me if I wanted to have a contract, so I signed up and now I earn a salary.

There are boys who come to my class to see me or recognize me once they are there, and they always I want photos

I get asked a lot for selfies. Some days there will be younger people, and they are the ones who always want photos.

If it’s just my locals that I meet and see every day, they usually don’t ask for photos. But the other day, I was giving this guy a drink that he wanted and I noticed that he was taking a picture of me. I said, “Why don’t you ask for a picture? I could actually pose and it would be cute, not weird.”

I still hear from people all over the country asking me if I can come to their golf course to work there. Haven’t taken any yet because it’s been so busy on this course, but maybe one day it would be great to try different courses all over the place.

Thanks to my TikTok, this May I had the opportunity to work as a cart at Electric Daisy Carnival, an electronic dance music festival in Las Vegas. That was really crazy and definitely a great experience.

On a normal day, I usually wake up at 5:30 a.m. If we have tournaments early, I have to get up at 4:30 a.m.

I select a nice outfit and adapt it to the type of boy who will be playing that day. For example, the Las Vegas Raiders fan club came, so I wore black and silver that day. I definitely invest in my outfits and do things like dye them and add accessories to look different every day.

Then I usually start the morning with an energy drink. I get to the field around 7 am, and I have to get the whole cart ready. That’s the part of the job that sucks the most because you have to fill it with ice. You are walking around with a large tray of drinks and other heavy things to put in the cart. But you really can’t get mad if that’s the hardest part of your job.

I’ll make coffee, put it in the cart, and start driving. I circle the field depending on where people are, and I have to stop and restock the cart depending on what people have bought. Also, since it’s so hot, I have to go back a lot for ice.

Sometimes when it’s really hot, I sneak into the freezer to take a little break. Then I go back out, keep doing the rounds, and repeat until 2 pm, or later if the golfers are still playing.

At the end of the day, I have to take all the snacks and drinks out of the cart, wash them, and put the money I made from the sales into a money bag. I keep the profit after the beverage sales; Those are the tips I go home with.

I try on different outfits to see which one gets the most tips.

Sometimes I do something tomboyish to see how it affects my toe, and I’ve tried different looks like a sportier girl or a girlier girl. I try to wear outfits that I haven’t worn before, which has become very difficult.

However, the skirt and polo look is the winner. I think some golfers are a little weird and see something schoolgirl but most seem to like it because it’s not what people would wear otherwise. It’s different, and it plays with the character of golf.

I love my job, but obviously, there are some downsides.

Once, a boy asked for a photo to impress the boys at home. We were standing sideways and he put his hands on my butt for the photo. I yelled at him and told him not to show them that one. To be honest, I get over things like that pretty quickly. It’s annoying and weird, but nothing too crazy.

The heat can be very harsh. It was 110 degrees just yesterday, but at least it’s dry in here. I don’t know how I would do this in the humidity. The cart protects you a lot from the sun, but I also get a good tan.

I want to inspire other girls to get into this.

It’s a really good way to earn good money, and you can start at a young age. Does not require much experience.

Working as a golf cart girl has completely changed my life. I wasn’t in a good place when I took this job, and now everything is different. After a year and a half of work, I saved my money and bought the best car I could.

For a job so small that most people don’t even know it exists, I’m now driving a Tesla.
