Christian Eriksen has agreed in principle to join Manchester United on a free transfer.
United will now finalize a three-year deal for the 30-year-old, who spent the second half of last season at Brentford.
Once this is done, Eriksen will have a medical exam before completing the move.
The Denmark international was considering offers from United and Brentford but decided to join Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Eriksen worked with Ten Hag when he trained with Ajax as part of his return to football following his cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.
United were patient in their search for Eriksen and did not press the midfielder for a decision as they understood his choice would be based on more than just football.
Eriksen settled in London with his family in Brentford, but was drawn by the prospect of working with Ten Hag and being part of United’s new era with the Dutchman.
News of a deal comes after a weekend in which Cristiano Ronaldo made it clear he wants to leave United after a slow start to the club’s business in this summer’s transfer window. The 37-year-old subsequently failed to report for pre-season training on Monday, citing family reasons.
Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is poised to become United’s first signing after undergoing medical checks before signing a five-year deal at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo absent for ‘family reasons’
Cristiano Ronaldo was absent when Manchester United’s international players returned for pre-season training on Monday.
The Portuguese striker has informed the club that he wants to leave this summer to play in the Champions League.
It is understood that his absence from training on Monday was for family reasons, and United accept this explanation.
United’s position on Ronaldo remains that he has one year left on his contract and is not for sale, despite his desire to leave Old Trafford.
Malacia to become Man Utd’s first summer signing
Manchester United are about to make their first summer signing as Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia finalizes his move to the Premier League club.
Personal terms have been agreed on a five-year deal for the Dutch international, which will cost United £13m.
United could now consider offers for Alex Telles, who has two years left on his contract after joining from Porto in the summer of 2020.
The immediate future of Brandon Williams is also expected to be discussed and whether his development is best served by staying at United or going out on loan again.
Williams spent last season on loan at Norwich, making 26 Premier League appearances.
