British Open 2022 Odds: Surprising PGA Picks, Golf Predictions From An Unbiased Model Who Made The Masters

In recent days, it was revealed that members of the LIV Golf Invitational Series will be able to compete in the 2022 Open Championship in St. Andrews. Several of the world’s top golfers left the PGA Tour, resulting in a suspension of PGA Tour events. However, the four major tournaments are not governed by the PGA, so the 2022 Open Championship field will be as strong as ever. Dustin Johnson had the best performance of any LIV Golf member at the US Open, finishing 24th.

Former Open Championship winners Louis Oosthuizen (2010) and Phil Mickelson (2013) are among the LIV Golf players who missed the cut at the US Open. Should any of them be among the top contenders for the 2022 Open Championship? Before pinning your picks for the 2022 Open Championship or entering any PGA DFS tournament on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to check out the PGA Tour predictions and betting tips from SportsLine’s proven golf model.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, created by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, he’s raised more than $9,500 in his best bets since that time, winning tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model included Thomas in his best bets to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet came in at +1600, and throughout the tournament, McClure’s best bets resulted in nearly $800. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was the first major championship victory of Scheffler’s career before the weekend.

Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright in the 2021 Open Championship, even though he had a long shot at 40-1. The model was also present for Rahm’s first career major championship win (10-1) at the 2021 US Open. Rahm was two shots off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also clinched a whopping eight majors before the weekend. Anyone who has followed him has seen massive returns.

As the 2022 British Open golf tournament approaches, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results were astounding. Head over to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Best 2022 Open Championship Predictions

One big surprise the model is asking for at the Open Championship 2022: Collin Morikawa (18-1), the defending British Open champion and one of the tournament favorites, stumbles and doesn’t even make it into the top five. Morikawa finished in fifth place at the US Open and the Masters, but was not found on the leaderboard at the PGA Championship, finishing outside the top 50.

Last year’s Open Championship remains Morikawa’s last win, and although he started this Tour season with five consecutive top-10 finishes, success has been fleeting ever since. In his last 10 tournaments, he has more finishes outside the top 50 (four) than inside the top 10 (three). His biggest culprit has been his short game, going from above average to among the worst on tour. He ranks 180th out of 204 players on tour in strokes gained: around the green (-.307), and that weakness could be magnified on a course with 100-plus bunkers.

Another surprise: Shane Lowry, a long shot from 22-1, makes a strong title run. It’s a goal for anyone looking for a big payday. Lowry has been quietly in good shape this season, even though he doesn’t have any titles to prove it. He was third at the Masters in April before finishing in the same position at the RBC Heritage. Lowry added a top-10 finish at the RBC Canadian Open earlier this month before missing the cut at the US Open.

Lowry has been a standout statistically this year, ranking ninth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained. The Irishman won the Open Championship by six shots in 2019 and cracked the top 15 last year, so he is sure to feel comfortable at this event. See who else to choose here.

How to make selections for the Open Championship 2022

The model points to two other golfers at odds of 22-1 or better who will make amazing runs. Anyone backing these long shots could be successful. You can only see the model selections here.
