AMA Selections carves out a niche for itself in the luxury short-term rental market

A pair of bold young entrepreneurs have just launched a high-end short-term rental platform aimed at disrupting industry giants like Airbnb and VRBO. Your secret sauce: a model that combines patented technology with personalized service.

“Mass booking platforms don’t offer a customized solution for the luxury traveler,” says Mariek Anselme, president and co-founder of AMA Selections. “They offer too much inventory without healing,” he adds.

The company hopes to create a unique niche in the luxury rental market. “Our guests spend more than ten times the amount per night than those on Airbnb and VRBO,” says Anselme. Also, the rental properties on our platform are all more exclusive, she says.

Unlike review-based models that allow owners to upload their own properties, those found on the AMA Selections platform are selected and vetted by the company’s team.

Also highlighting the new platform, in-house reservation agents help clients select the homes that best suit their particular needs and preferences. Current platforms generally require users to independently conduct searches, often combing through hundreds of properties to find a match. Travelers are also solely responsible for determining whether the reviews associated with their respective listings are reliable.

How are the properties selected in the portfolio?

“They must be beautifully designed and offer quality at all times,” says co-founder Andrea Saliu. “Regardless of size, each property listed offers a ‘wow’ factor with special appeal.”

They tend to be larger properties, averaging five bedrooms; average stays also tend to be longer. Therefore, these properties tend to attract families and other small-group stays, whether it’s for a family reunion, business retreat, or girlfriend getaway.

Other accolades: “Rentals are not only vetted for inclusion on the platform, they are also professionally managed, with a team on-site to greet guests and address any questions or issues that arise during the course of a rental. stay,” says Saliu. Some villas are fully staffed while others are self contained.

More than 70 percent of AMA Selections guests book additional services through the company’s seamlessly integrated online concierge service. This could include hiring a private chef to cook dinner or host a special party on the property, securing a hard-to-get reservation at a nearby Michelin-starred restaurant, or chartering a yacht and crew for an excursion.

The platform also allows users to share their travel itinerary with friends and family directly from their accounts.

Anselme and AMA Selections co-founder Andrea Saliu are not only business partners, but partners for life. (The company acronym stands for Andrea, Mariek and Associates.) In 2014, when they were both just 25 years old, the couple founded the company, which began as a small boutique vacation rental company on the French Riviera.

Anselme and Saliu launched the company from the start, borrowing money from a friend to get it off the ground and taking out student loans to pay for themselves for six months.

“We had to be able to collect wages after that, or we would have had to find work,” says Saliu. “Fortunately, AMA Selections was profitable from the first year and we never looked back,” he says.

The company currently offers access to more than 1,000 properties in more than 100 locations across Europe.

“We are delighted to launch the new AMA Selections platform after 12 months of research and development,” says Anselme. “While short-term rental space has evolved rapidly in recent years, the high-end sector has remained largely untouched.”
